Arula Ratnakar is a 21-year-old scientist, science fiction writer, and artist. She is currently studying biology and neuroscience with an architecture minor at Carnegie Mellon University. Arula is very interested in the intersection between systems and computational neuroscience and she LOVES the basal ganglia! She hopes to go into brain simulation research and space neuroscience research, and wants to be an astronaut in the future. She also cares a lot about science communication and outreach. Arula is currently teaching a Neuroscience for Non-majors course at Carnegie Mellon and the lectures are available to watch for free on YouTube. Her first two stories have been published in Clarkesworld Magazine and she has a novella that has been accepted for publication in Clarkesworld as well. An image of her 10-foot-long freehand architectural drawing "Destruction of Troy" will be published in the first issue of Dark Matter Magazine.
